Sending a Test Email

Send a test email before your campaign goes live

Sending a Test Email

Always send a test email before launching a campaign. Test emails let you check your email's appearance, links, and personalization in a real inbox environment.

How to Send a Test Email

  1. In the campaign builder, navigate to the Review step.
  2. Click the Send Test Email button.
  3. Enter one or more email addresses to send the test to. Separate multiple addresses with commas.
  4. Click Send.
  5. The test email is delivered to the specified addresses within a few seconds.

What to Verify in Your Test Email

  • Subject line and preheader — check how they appear in the inbox preview. Ensure merge tags render correctly (test emails typically show raw merge tags or sample data).
  • Visual design — open the test email on both desktop and mobile to check layout, images, fonts, and colors.
  • Links — click every link in the email to ensure they point to the correct destinations. Pay special attention to CTA buttons and the unsubscribe link.
  • Images — confirm all images load correctly. Check alt text by temporarily blocking images in your email client.
  • Spam folder — check if the test email landed in spam. If it did, review your content for spam triggers using the spam score checker.
  • Sender information — verify the “From” name and email address are correct.

Test Email Behavior

  • Test emails are sent using your campaign's configured sender address and domain.
  • Merge tags in test emails may show placeholder values rather than real contact data. Use “Preview as Contact” for accurate merge tag testing.
  • Test emails do not count toward your sending limits or campaign analytics.
  • Test emails are not tracked for opens or clicks — they are purely for quality assurance.

Tips

  • Send test emails to addresses on different providers (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, Apple Mail) to check rendering across clients.
  • Create a distribution list of your team's email addresses so you can quickly send tests to multiple reviewers.
  • Send a test email after every significant change to your campaign design, not just once at the end.
  • If your test email goes to spam, review the spam score analysis available on the review step before proceeding.
