Comparing Campaigns
Compare two or more campaigns side by side
Comparing Campaigns
Comparing campaign performance over time is essential for understanding what works and what does not. Mailnaptic lets you compare campaigns side by side so you can identify trends, test hypotheses, and continuously improve your email marketing.
Why compare campaigns
Single campaign metrics only tell you how that individual send performed. By comparing campaigns, you can answer questions like:
- Are my open rates improving or declining over time?
- Did changing my subject line style affect click rates?
- Which audience segment responds best to promotional content?
- How did a Tuesday send compare to a Thursday send?
- Is my new email template outperforming the old one?
How to compare campaigns
- Navigate to Campaigns in the sidebar.
- Select the campaigns you want to compare. Look for the comparison or multi-select feature in the campaign list view.
- The comparison view displays key metrics for each campaign in a side-by-side table or chart format.
Metrics available for comparison
The comparison view includes all core campaign metrics:
| Metric | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Send volume | How many people received each campaign |
| Open rate | Percentage of recipients who opened |
| Click rate | Percentage of recipients who clicked |
| Click-to-open rate | Clicks divided by opens — content effectiveness |
| Bounce rate | Percentage of emails that bounced |
| Unsubscribe rate | Percentage of recipients who unsubscribed |
| Complaint rate | Percentage of recipients who reported spam |
Tips for meaningful comparisons
Compare like with like
For meaningful comparisons, compare campaigns sent to similar audience sizes and segments. A campaign sent to 500 highly engaged contacts will naturally have a higher open rate than one sent to 50,000 contacts across all engagement levels.
Control your variables
When testing a specific change (e.g., a new subject line approach), try to keep everything else constant — same audience segment, same send time, same email template. This way, any difference in performance can be attributed to the variable you changed.
Track trends over time
Compare your last 5-10 campaigns to spot trends. A gradual decline in open rates across multiple campaigns is a stronger signal than a single campaign underperforming. Trends help you distinguish between random variation and genuine shifts in performance.
Use benchmark comparisons
Mailnaptic's AI post-mortem feature includes benchmark comparisons against your organization's 6-month averages. This provides automatic context for whether a campaign performed above or below your norm.
Common comparison patterns
- Promotional vs educational — Compare sales campaigns against informational newsletters to see which type your audience prefers.
- Segment performance — Send the same campaign to different segments and compare engagement to understand audience preferences.
- Template testing — Compare campaigns using different email templates to measure the impact of design changes.
- Send time testing — Compare the same campaign content sent at different times or days to find your optimal send window.
Regular campaign comparison is the foundation of data-driven email marketing. Make it a habit to review your recent campaigns together rather than in isolation.
