Post-Purchase Template
Nurture customers after a purchase
Post-Purchase Template
The relationship with a customer should not end at the checkout. The Post-Purchase template in Mailnaptic helps you nurture buyers with follow-up emails that build loyalty, encourage repeat purchases, and collect valuable feedback.
What the template includes
- Trigger: Site event —
purchase_completedevent received. - Send email: Thank you / order confirmation email.
- Delay: Wait 3 days.
- Send email: Product tips and getting started guide.
- Delay: Wait 7 days.
- Send email: Review or feedback request.
Customizing the emails
Email 1: Thank you
Send this immediately after purchase. Include:
- A sincere thank you message.
- Order summary or confirmation details (if available in your event data).
- What to expect next (shipping timeline, onboarding steps).
- Customer support contact information.
Email 2: Product tips
Sent a few days after purchase when the customer has received or started using the product:
- Tips for getting the most out of their purchase.
- Links to tutorials, guides, or FAQs.
- Related products or complementary items (cross-sell opportunity).
Email 3: Review request
After the customer has had time to use the product:
- Ask for a review or rating.
- Keep the request simple — one click to leave a review.
- Optionally offer a small incentive for leaving a review.
Extending the template
You can add additional steps to the post-purchase automation:
- Loyalty program invitation — Invite the customer to join your loyalty or rewards program.
- Replenishment reminder — For consumable products, send a reorder reminder at the expected depletion date.
- Referral request — Ask happy customers to refer friends.
- Condition on review — If the customer left a positive review, send a referral request. If negative, send a customer support follow-up.
Timing considerations
Adjust delays based on your product type:
- Digital products: Shorten delays since the customer has immediate access.
- Physical products: Account for shipping time before sending product tips.
- Subscription services: Time the review request after the customer has experienced a full billing cycle.
Best practices
- The thank you email should feel personal, not transactional. Use the customer's first name and a warm tone.
- Do not overwhelm new customers with upsells in the first email. Build trust first.
- Make the review request as frictionless as possible — one click or a simple rating scale.
- Respect frequency caps to avoid over-sending if the customer is also enrolled in other automations.
Post-purchase automations turn one-time buyers into repeat customers and brand advocates. They run automatically, requiring no manual effort once set up.
