Web Activity on Contacts
Once a website visitor has been identified as a Mailnaptic contact, all of their tracked page views and custom events appear in the contact's activity feed. This gives you a complete picture of how each contact interacts with both your emails and your website.
Viewing the activity feed
To see a contact's web activity:
- Navigate to Contacts and open the contact's detail page.
- Click the Activity tab.
- Use the filter buttons at the top to switch between All, Email, and Web activity.
The Web filter shows only site tracking events. Each entry displays:
- Event type — either Page View or a custom event name (e.g.,
product_viewed). - Page URL — the URL the contact was on when the event fired.
- Timestamp — when the event occurred, shown as a relative time (e.g., "2 hours ago").
- Properties — for custom events, any key-value properties attached to the event are displayed in an expandable detail row.
How events are attributed
Events appear on a contact's feed only after they have been identified. Identification happens automatically when a contact clicks a tracked link in an email. Once identified:
- Recent anonymous events from the same browser session are retroactively linked to the contact.
- All future events from that browser are automatically attributed.
If a visitor has not been identified, their events exist in Mailnaptic but are not attached to any contact record.
Using web activity for outreach
The activity feed is useful for understanding individual contact behavior before reaching out:
- Sales follow-up: If a contact visited your pricing page three times this week, that signals buying intent.
- Support context: Seeing which help pages a contact viewed before submitting a ticket helps your team respond faster.
- Personalization: Knowing which product categories a contact browses lets you tailor your next email.
Activity feed limits
The activity feed shows the most recent 200 events per contact by default. Older events are still stored and available for segmentation, but they scroll off the visible feed. If you need to analyze a contact's full history, use segments with web activity filters or export the data via the API.
Data retention
Site tracking events are retained for 12 months from the event date. After that period, events are automatically purged. This applies to both identified and anonymous events. If your organization requires longer retention, contact support to discuss extended storage options.
Tip: Combine the All activity filter to see email opens, clicks, and web visits on a single timeline. This unified view reveals the full journey — from receiving an email to browsing your site.
