Creating Your First Segment

Build your first dynamic audience segment

Creating Your First Segment

Segments in Mailnaptic are dynamic audience groups that automatically update as contacts match (or stop matching) your defined criteria. Unlike static lists, segments recalculate membership in real time, ensuring your campaigns always reach the right people.

How to Create a Segment

  1. Navigate to Audiences → Segments from the main sidebar.
  2. Click the New Segment button in the top-right corner.
  3. Enter a descriptive name for your segment (e.g., “Active subscribers last 30 days”).
  4. Choose your logic mode: select whether contacts must match all rules (AND) or any rule (OR).
  5. Click Add Rule to define your first filter condition. Choose a filter type from the dropdown — for example, Tag, List membership, or Email engagement.
  6. Configure the rule parameters. Each filter type has its own set of operators and values.
  7. Add more rules as needed by clicking Add Rule again.
  8. Review the contact count preview at the bottom to see how many contacts currently match your criteria.
  9. Click Save Segment.

Segment Use Cases

  • Engaged subscribers — contacts who opened or clicked in the last 30 days.
  • Inactive contacts — subscribers who haven't opened any email in 90+ days.
  • High-value customers — contacts tagged with specific purchase-related tags.
  • New signups — contacts created within the last 7 days.
  • Geography-based — contacts filtered by custom field values like city or country.

Tips

  • Start simple with one or two rules. You can always refine your segment later.
  • Use the contact count preview to validate your rules before saving.
  • Segments are reusable — once created, you can target them from any campaign or automation.
  • Segment membership is dynamic. If a contact's data changes and they no longer match your rules, they are automatically removed from the segment.
