AI Segment Builder

Create segments using natural language

AI Segment Builder

The Mailnaptic AI Segment Builder lets you create audience segments by describing them in plain English. Instead of manually configuring rules and filters, simply type what you want and the AI translates your description into segment rules automatically.

How to Use the AI Segment Builder

  1. Navigate to Audiences → Segments and click New Segment.
  2. In the segment editor, look for the AI input field with a violet accent near the top of the modal. It is labeled “Describe your audience.”
  3. Type a natural language description of the segment you want to create. For example:
    • “Contacts who opened an email in the last 30 days and are tagged as VIP”
    • “People who visited the pricing page but haven't purchased”
    • “New subscribers from the last week who are on the Newsletter list”
  4. Press Enter or click the Generate button.
  5. The AI processes your description and returns:
    • A segment name based on your description.
    • The logic mode (AND or OR).
    • A set of rules that match your intent.
    • A brief explanation of how the rules were interpreted.
    • A contact count preview showing how many contacts currently match.
  6. Review the generated rules. You can edit, add, or remove any rule before saving.
  7. Click Save Segment when satisfied.

What the AI Knows About Your Account

When you submit a natural language query, the AI automatically fetches context about your organization, including:

  • Your custom fields and their types.
  • Your existing tags.
  • Your lists.

This context helps the AI generate accurate rules that reference your actual data structure rather than guessing at field names.

Example Queries

Natural Language InputGenerated Rules
“Active subscribers who clicked in the last 2 weeks”Email clicked, any campaign, last 14 days
“People tagged Premium who haven't opened in 60 days”Tag is “Premium” AND Email not opened, last 60 days
“Contacts on the Customers list who visited the upgrade page”List membership: Customers AND Site visited page: /upgrade

Tips

  • Be specific in your descriptions. “People interested in product X” is vague; “contacts tagged product-x who clicked in the last 30 days” is clear and produces better results.
  • You can always refine the AI-generated rules manually after generation.
  • The AI Segment Builder uses your AI credits. See the AI Credit Usage article for details on tracking consumption.
  • If the AI misinterprets your request, try rephrasing with more explicit filter terms like “tagged,” “opened,” “visited,” or “in the last N days.”
